Book value
St.Augustine delivered himself of the opinion that 'The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page.' For denizens of South Kensington seeking enlightenment Daunt Books, a recent newcomer to Fulham Road, is surely the answer.

Daunt Books, 158-164 Fulham Road

The conspicuously successful bookseller James Daunt opened his first bookshop in Marylebone 20 years ago. 'The most beautiful bookshop in London' quoting The Daily Telegraph 'designed for travellers who like reading.'

Daunt's distinctive ethos, which is typified by featuring titles organised by country of origin, is unchanged in branches opened in Holland Park, Hampstead and Belsize Park. Travel writing, guides, history, cultural studies and fiction (there is a strong general fiction list) and non-fiction will please even the most literate browser between the shelves. Attentive staff will readily make informed suggestions for future reading.

'We take a great deal of pride in running beautiful bookshops’ says Daunt's Rebecca Le Fevre and the site is the ideal destination for talks, launches and signings. Tuesday teatime at four o’clock is reserved for a children's story hour. In the words of one admiring customer, 'You want a book? They've got it!' A reminder that putting books together remains a calling as well as a business.
